About the Journal
Journal of Islam, Media, and Society (JIMS) is an international, peer-reviewed, and interdisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing scholarly research at the intersection of Islamic studies, media, and contemporary social dynamics. The journal provides a critical platform for examining how Islam is represented, mediated, and negotiated within various forms of media, as well as how media technologies shape religious practices, identities, and discourses in Muslim societies.
In an era marked by rapid digital transformation, JIMS explores the complex relationships between religion and media across diverse cultural and socio-political contexts. It welcomes contributions that analyze both traditional and new media—including print, broadcast, and digital platforms—in shaping religious authority, public piety, political communication, and everyday Muslim life.
The journal encourages diverse methodological and theoretical approaches, including but not limited to media studies, sociology of religion, anthropology, communication studies, cultural studies, and Islamic intellectual traditions. Topics of interest include digital Islam, online religious authority, Islamic preaching (da‘wah) in social media, representation of Islam in global media, mediatization of religion, and the role of media in constructing religious knowledge and social norms.
JIMS is committed to fostering a global academic dialogue that bridges classical Islamic scholarship with contemporary critical theories, aiming to contribute to a deeper understanding of Islam in the modern mediated world.
