Initial Checks
All submitted manuscripts received by the Editorial team of the Journal of Quranic Media Studies will be checked by a Managing Editor to determine whether they are properly prepared and whether they follow the ethical policies and author guidelines of the journal.
Manuscripts that do not fit the journal's ethics policy or do not meet the standards of the journal will be rejected before peer-review. Manuscripts that are not properly prepared will be returned to the authors for revision and resubmission.
After these checks, the Managing Editor will consult the Editor-in-Chief or Editors to determine whether the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and whether it is academically sound. At this stage, no judgment on the potential impact of the work will be made. Any rejection decision at this stage will be verified by the Editor-in-Chief.
The submitted manuscript is acknowledged within 12–24 hours upon receipt.
Peer-Review
Once a manuscript passes the initial checks, it will be assigned by the editor to at least two independent experts for peer-review. The double-blind peer-review process is applied, where authors’ identities are not known to reviewers.
Reviewers are selected based on their expertise in the relevant field and may include Editorial Board Members or external reviewers. Reviewers must have no conflicts of interest.
The following situations are considered conflicts of interest and should be avoided:
- Reviewers have co-published with any of the authors within the last three years
- Reviewers are affiliated with the same institution as the authors
- Reviewers supervise or are supervised by the authors
- Reviewers receive professional or personal benefit from the review
- Reviewers have personal relationships with the authors
- Reviewers have financial interests in the manuscript
The review process takes a maximum of six (6) weeks.
Editorial Decision and Revision
All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Quranic Media Studies undergo peer-review and receive at least two review reports. Based on these reports, the editor will communicate one of the following decisions:

Minor revisions are required. Authors are given one week to revise their manuscript. - Resubmit for Review
Major revisions are required. Authors must provide a detailed response to reviewers. A maximum of three weeks is given for revision, and the manuscript may be sent for further review. - Decline Submission
The manuscript has significant issues or lacks originality. Resubmission is not permitted.
All reviewer comments must be addressed point-by-point. If authors disagree with reviewers, a clear justification must be provided.
Author Appeals
Authors may appeal editorial decisions by contacting the Managing Editor of the Journal of Quranic Media Studies. Appeals must include detailed justifications and responses to reviewer comments.
The appeal will be evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Board. The final decision may include acceptance, re-review, or rejection. Decisions at this stage are final.
